A Bibliography on EMS in a State of Change

Make no mistake, reform is coming to EMS! Federal health care reform is one factor driving changes in EMS, but there are many other factors affecting the future of emergency health care delivery that aren’t getting as much press attention even though their impact is at least as important. This post is an attempt not to repeat what others have said but to place it all in context with references to some of the best articles I have found on the topic.

Demystifying the Current Drug Shortage Problem in EMS

A recent meeting sponsored by the DHHS, the ASPR, the EMS industry, and attended by other key industry players including the FDA and drug manufacturers/suppliers showed that the problems are due to a diverse manufacturing demand on a production capacity incapable of meeting those demands. The important thing is where we go next.

Response Time Zero

The best possible response time for any emergency is immediate. This is no simple theoretical goal, but a physical reality everywhere that a Public Safety Dispatcher, using standard Emergency Medical Dispatch protocols, can be reached by phone. Did You Watch ‘Nightwatch’ Last Night?
Hello, work in the EMS system in Brazil and whenever I can, I watch the episodes that leave recording to watch later, you show the reality of day-to-day of your city, which is very good and has no censorship as the shocking images that we see every day, because here everything is censored. I think that the position someone takes on this issue depends entirely on the circumstances of the particular EMS system they have in mind when they consider the question.
